The Campus and the Park
The 1875 and 1906 views of campus show the presence of landscape within the campus and the mix of architectural styles. The beauty of the natural setting of Princeton's campus was recognized by campus planners and University administrators as an important contributor to a liberal education. The Victorian style of architecture was intended to harmonize with the landscape. In 1906, Lake Carnegie was created in the wetlands at the southern edge of campus to create a rowing venue, funded by Andrew Carnegie.
