The Campus' First Expansion

In the 1830s, Joseph Henry, a physics professor at Princeton before he became the first director of the Smithsonian Institute, suggested the development of a symmetrical back campus quadrangle with two new dormitories (East College and West College) and new buildings for the debating societies, Whig and Clio.
